Northcentral University was founded in 1996 by Dr. Hecht and offers 100% online degree programs. Northcentral University was formed out of the Southern California University for Professional Studies.

Southern California was founded with the intent to provide correspondence courses and degree programs designed for adult learners. With the rapid advancement of technology, Dr. Hecht decided to form a completely online experience for busy working adults and Northcentral University was born.
In the field of psychology, Northcentral University has course offerings up through the Doctoral level. The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology offers a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum that allows students to seek further education in psychology and related fields.
Northcentral offers a Master’s of Psychology with specializations in Gender Diversity Studies, General Psychology, Healthy Psychology and Industrial Organizational Psychology. A Master’s of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy is also available and focuses on developing skills and the personal and professional growth necessary for a practice in the field of marriage and family therapy.
Through the Behavioral and Health Sciences, doctoral degrees are available in many areas of psychology including Gender Diversity, General Psychology, Health Psychology and Industrial Organizational Psychology. There are also doctoral programs available in Marriage and Family Therapy including Child and Adolescent Therapy, Couple Therapy, General Family Therapy, Medical Family Therapy and Therapy with Military Families.
Northcentral University believes in a mentored approach and provides students with faculty support during their time there. The mentoring program provides students with personal attention while allowing a learning approach geared to the individual. Learning is delivered through online bulletin boards, chat rooms and e-mail.
Northcentral University was the first 100% online university to offer accredited Doctoral degrees. Northcentral University is one of eight schools to receive accreditation by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, in addition to being accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
