Kelowna College of Professional Counselling

The Kelowna College of Professional Counseling is located in downtown Kelowna, British Columbia, and is one block from City Park and the beach of Lake Okanagan. Kelowna is a private post-secondary institution and trains students in the field of professional counseling. Kelowna offers degrees both on-campus and through their online program, Distance Education.

Kelowna College students can earn a Diploma of Applied Psychology and Counseling or a Certificate in Applied Counseling Studies in seven months to one year. The curriculum is specially designed to provide knowledge that is practical and based on training in a particular skill of interest. 

At Kelowna, courses are scheduled on a continuous rotation and students can join at the beginning of any course. Kelowna students can expect an interactive experience and each session includes discussions, demonstrations, videos, and/or skill practice exercises. Occasionally students can expect guest speakers and field trips. 

The online program at Kelowna includes projects that are interactive and relate to real life counseling situations. Students can expect role playing, field trips, movies and demonstrations. Instructors provide feedback to students on a regular basis. There is opportunity for students to meet through the online forum. 

The Kelowna course catalog offers a variety of different subjects to choose from including Conflict, Suicide & Emergency Intervention, Spiritual/Faith Based Counseling, Youth & Family Counseling and Life Skills Coaching. 

There is a large range of career options available to students who complete the certificate and diploma programs. Some of these include depression, anxiety, addictions, youth, family and couples, seniors, loss and grief and group therapy counselors. 

The mission of Kelowna College is to prepare graduates to begin careers as entry level counselors, offer specialized training to those already in the field and provide opportunity for personal growth through a deeper understanding of self.
