Grand Canyon University

Grand Canyon University is a private university located in Phoenix, Arizona. It was founded in 1949 and is a regionally accredited Christian university. The first Grand Canyon University campus was located in an abandoned armory building in Prescott, Arizona and organized by the Baptist General Convention of Arizona.

Various programs are offered through the colleges at Grand Canyon University. The colleges include the Ken Blanchard College of Business, College of Nursing & Health Science, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts, College of Fine Arts and Productions, and College of Doctoral Studies.    

The mission statement of Grand Canyon is to prepare learners to become “critical thinkers, effective communicators and responsible leaders”. All of this is achieved in a values-based curriculum derived from the context of a Christian heritage. Grand Canyon University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and licensed by the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education.  

Grand Canyon University, through the College of Liberal Arts, offers courses for students interested in the field of psychology. Undergraduates can earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology degree while graduate students can choose between a Master’s of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and a Master’s of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in General Psychology.

Grand Canyon University also offers an online option for students with a busy lifestyle. The online programs are delivered in a cohort-based model where students advance together through a series of core courses. This is followed by an area of emphasis chosen by the students. Through a cohort learning environment, students are able to develop relationships as well as receive support and encouragement with other cohort members.  

Grand Canyon University offers students access to symphony orchestras, ballet and theater performances and comedy clubs. There are opportunities to attend major league sports events all year long. There are also many parks, lakes, rivers, hiking and bike trails nearby.
