The vision of ACU is to educate and produce the next generation of Christian leaders who embrace the philosophy that leadership is service, as modeled by Jesus. The Applied Psychology degrees that are available from ACU do not deviate from their overarching theme. The Psychology Department educates students in human development, learning, personality and physiological psychology, applying these alongside the Christian faith.

Abilene Christian University offers undergraduate degrees in psychology as well as graduate degrees in clinical psychology, counseling psychology and school psychology. The Psychology Clinic at ACU is a state of the art facility. Graduate students gain invaluable skills through the services offered to Abilene and the Big Country area. This remains in line with ACU’s Christian beliefs as it provides assistance to adults and children who otherwise may not be able to afford these services.

All of the psychology programs require a Bachelor’s of Science degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution. Applicants must also have completed at least 12 undergraduate semester hours in psychology including elementary statistics, experimental psychology, abnormal psychology, and three additional hours that may include physiological psychology, developmental psychology, principles of learning or an acceptable substitute.

Some ACU graduates have gone on to pursue doctorates in clinical psychology, join research teams, become school psychologists and licensed professional counselors or work with missionary teams. ACU has been named one of “America’s Best Colleges” by U.S. News & World Report and is included in America’s 100 Best College Buys.
